America’s Got Talent comedian Grandma Lee has passed away at the age of 85, six months after suffering from a broken hip.
Grandma Lee died at her assisted living facility in Florida, her son Kelly said to TMZ.
It was in November 2019 when the comedian fell and broke her hip. Sadly, she never recovered completely from the incident.
Kelly confirmed that Grandma Lee’s death was not related to COVID-19. She had her two loving sons next to her when she passed away.
The comedian had been performing up until her fall, which occurred when she accidentally fell down in her hotel room after a show in Florida.
Kelly said she spent the past few days reading messages from friends and felt loved.
“Heaven just got a whole lot funnier,” Kelly expressed.
It was during the 2009 season of America’s Got Talent when Grandma Lee became a hit. She said at that time: “I go up there and wing it… but I had to clean it up for the show.
“I won’t say a cuss word or anything to jeopardize (myself). I can do clean or edgy.”
Grandma Lee lost her husband of 37-years to cancer in May 1995. She started doing stand-up to cope with his death. She is survived by her four loving children.
One internet user commented: “No going gently into that good night for her. She was a firecracker to the end. Good for her to have some fun instead of simply waiting around for Old Man Det’. God bless and RIP.”
Another wrote: “I’m 76 and the thing i fear the most is falling and breaking my hip. And I bet the place it’s going to happen is the shower. I better look into putting some handrails in.”
A third added: “RIP Gramma Lee.”
