An airplane burst into flames and sent clouds of black smoke into the sky above an airport in Spain.
The incident took place at Castellon Airport where a Boeing 747-400 belonging to British Airways suddenly caught fire near the cockpit.
According to the reports, the airplane in question was stored at the airport after getting withdrawn from service by British Airways.
In footage of the incident, black smoke was seen rising from the area behind the cockpit, whereas firefighters rushed to the scene to put out the fire before it could worsen and spread to other parts of the aircraft.
“Castellón Airport firefighters and Provincial Fire Consortium Castellon worked together to extinguish a fire in an aircraft,” the airport confirmed in a statement after the fire was successfully put out.
“There have been no injuries to regret and the fire is already confined.”
As the officials in Valencia added, the plane was free of passengers at the time of the incident because it was “destined for scrapping” following its recent retirement.
As of this writing, it is not clear how the fire started.
Fortunately, no one has been injured during the blaze, whereas the firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it could spread to other parts of the plane.
