Abu Dhabi Airport staff have been left shocked after an elderly man with a passport claiming he is 123 years old walked through the terminal.
123-year-old Swami Sivananda’s passport reveals he was born on August 8, 1896, in Behala India. He had been traveling to London with Ethihad Airways and had to stop by in Dubai.
If his passport is correct, he would be the oldest man to have ever lived.
Mr. Sivananda lost both his parents at a very young age. His relatives gave him to a spiritual guru and they traveled around India before setting in Varanasi.
It is difficult to tell whether Mr. Sivananda is really 123 as the only record he has comes from a temple register.
His appearance also looks decades younger than 123 years, something he credits to celibacy, discipline, and yoga.
In 2016, Mr. Sivananda was reported on because of his birthday on his passport. “I lead a simple and disciplined life. I eat very simply – only boiled food without oil or spices, rice and boiled daal (lentil stew) with a couple of green chillies,” he said.
He added: “I avoid taking milk or fruits because I think these are fancy foods. In my childhood I slept many days on an empty stomach.”
With a height of five feet and two inches, he sleeps on a mat and uses a wooden slab to support his head.
He has been trying to have his status and age confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records for 3 years. However, he is yet to enter the book because of difficulties in proving his age.
So far the oldest person was Jeanne Louise Calment from France who reached the age of 122 years.
The oldest person alive and recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records is 116-year-old Kane Tanaka from Japan.
