A non-binary employee is going viral after accusing Alaska Airlines’ new uniform policy of gender bias and discrimination.
The airlines unveiled its new set of employee uniforms in the year 2018. However, local media outlets report how this is the first time ever that it has been accused of being discriminatory in terms of its uniforms and that too by one of its own employees.
The non-binary flight attendant alleges that the organization’s own uniform policy is gender bias and works against its own workers in the most discriminatory manner imaginable. Moreover, they also believe that the new uniform regulations do not keep in mind different gender stereotypes too, as mentioned in the union for American Civil Liberties.
“When I work as a flight attendant instructor, I am given the freedom to wear normal business attire,” Justin Wetherell added.
At that time, they also went on to claim how they can not be forced to fit into a specific category of the company’s male or female policy.
Moreover, neither of the policies fit Justin as they are non-binary and hence do not identify as a particular gender.“However, when I come to do my duties as a flight attendant, I am forced to fit into a particular stereotype, often for a period of more than 4 days in a row.” This way, Justin claims he feels excluded as being forced into a particular binary uniform is very wrong, leading them to feel misgendered too.
Justin has been working for the airlines for more than 7 years now and that’s why he feels it’s finally time to raise concern over the matter that appears to be a major deal for people belonging to the non-binary stereotype.
Meanwhile, Justin wrote a letter that was recently issued by the ACLU. Here is where it was concluded how gender identity in this world is not strictly related to being either a male or a female. It is a fluid status that may fluctuate over time.
