Alec Baldwin was spotted visiting the family of Halyna Hutchins following the tragedy on set.
On Thursday, the 63-year-old Hollywood star accidentally shot photography director Halyna Hutchins on set for the movie Rust after a prop pistol misfired.
Following the tragic incident, the cinematographer was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead just an hour later.
Now, Baldwin was spotted consoling and hugging Halyna’s grieving husband Matthew and 9-year-old son Andros after they left a Santa Fe hotel. According to Mr Hutchins, the actor has been very supportive of the family following the tragic accident.
It has since the incident also emerged that “hysterical and absolutely inconsolable” Baldwin began canceling his work and projects to focus on the ordeal he’s going through.
“This was pretty devastating. This is how he handles difficult times. Whenever something bad happens, in the short term, he removes himself from [the] public eye,” a source told People as they confirmed that Baldwin will likely “take some time to himself and re-center himself.”
Meanwhile, the actions of two Rust crew members have come under scrutiny as the investigation into the shooting continues.
As sources told Daily Beast, 24-year-old armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was known for being careless with prop guns on set.
“She was a bit careless with the guns, waving it around every now and again. There were a couple times she was loading the blanks and doing it in a fashion that we thought was unsafe,” a source who worked closely with the armorer on another movie said.
Under scrutiny is also the movie’s assistant director Dave Hall who was accused of breaking various safety protocols on set for Into The Dark back in 2019. Hall was also accused of disregarding the importance of gun safety meetings.
