The primary rule of sports is that no matter what you have to respect the other player and the team.
A sportsperson, even if it is in your opposition, deserves respect and being a sportsperson, you would have to give it.
Fans of England women’s team appeared unhappy with the captain Alex Morgan as she appeared to mock the Lionesses in an act of drinking tea to express her joy of entering the World Cup finals and leaving the other team behind.
But what appeared a way to share her joy appeared offending to the fans. People slammed her and called her “Disrespectful” because of her act of mimicking of drinking the tea.
Among all the fans that slammed her, there was this Twitter user who said that the worst part of her act was that the technique she used to drink the tea was not right.
A user named Jonny King said “the only issue I have with Alex’s act was because of her drinking technique. Who would through their cup of tea back like that until and unless they want a face full of hot liquid burning them up?”
He added “She also had no saucer in the other hand and at the end, she made no satisfactory sound of “Ahhhhh” which cannot be forgotten.”
Other fans that had called her disrespectful and had slammed her said she was classless and that her ego is ugly for a sportsperson. A user commented, “I would have my cup of tea with all the pleasure if you lose in the final.”
Defending and explaining herself and her act, Morgan posted on Twitter saying “I was not trying to be offensive. It was just a way for me to celebrate the victory. I was trying to keep it interesting. Rapinoe is never questioned about their celebration. We were in joy and so we celebrated, that is it.”
