Amanda Gorman, America’s new superstar poet, took a private jet home to California after her performance during President Joe Biden’s inauguration.
The 22-year-old youth poet returned home with over a million followers on Twitter and the praise of former President Barack Obama, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Oprah Winfrey, and other big celebrities.
Gorman, who graduated cum Laude from Harvard with a degree in sociology, will soon have her inaugural poem published as a book as her other works become best-sellers.
In her inaugural poem, she mentioned her mother as the ‘single mother’ who raised the ‘skinny black girl’ making performance on the Capitol steps.
The 22-year-old has three books of poetry set to be released this year.
Gorman’s poem indicated that she “dreams of becoming president.”
In an interview before the inauguration, she said: “I’m going to tell Biden that I’ll be back.”
Hillary Clinton also said that “she’s promised to run for president in 2036 and I for one can’t wait.”
Gorman was invited to perform at the inauguration by first lady Jill Biden. She had also previously met former first lady Michelle Obama during a White House visit.
Gorman received a call from Biden’s inaugural committee in late December, and by the time of the riot, she already had written about half of her poem.
“That day gave me a second wave of energy to finish the poem,” she expressed.
One part of her poem reads: “We’ve seen a force that would shatter our nation rather than share it; would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy…
“And this effort very nearly succeeded; but while democracy can be periodically delayed, it can never be permanently defeated.”
Her poem also stressed the new president’s message of unity. “And so we lift our gazes not to what stands between us, but what stands before us…
“We close the divide because we know, to put our future first, we must first put our differences aside.”
