America is often called a “melting pot” because it blends together so many different cultures and people.
This is true, but each of us individually, are our own melting pot as well. Our DNA keeps a history of every single one of our ancestors dating back hundreds upon hundreds of years. All the way back to the earliest humans. It’s an amazing feat, but one we don’t often think about.
But when people are so focused on creating walls between us, it’s important to remember that our heritages are a blend of many cultures, not just one. It’s too easy to forget the atrocities that have been committed over small petty differences in culture or skin color when we’re all so similar in ways we don’t even fully understand.

It’s why a video like this, one that allows us to rethink the way we look at things, can be so important at a time like this. With people seemingly talking over each other about the latest political issue, it can be easy to It starts with a simple concept: what do you know about your heritage? The participants were asked simply if they wanted to take a trip based on their DNA. To visit the places where their ancestors lived.
The participants were skeptical that the results would surprise them, but decided to try it out, anyways. No one was expecting the surprise the results had in store for them. The results were so shocking to a few, that they were brought to tears.

So the organizers took a DNA sample from everyone and sent them to a lab where they would be analyzed so their ancestry would be traced. What’s incredible is that they asked every participant what they believed their ancestry was. Most gave answers going back one or two generations and typically believed that was the extent of their ancestry. None of them went back even 50 years.
The results brought many of them to tears! So many were shocked to see their ancestry spanned the globe. There was even a surprise among the audience! I won’t spoil the surprise but it was absolutely incredible!
A few viewers expressed concern that this was exclusively actors, however Momondo explained the process of creating it. The biggest takeaway is that no one was told to react in a certain way. Everyone was compensated for their time, however the reactions were all genuine.
