Amazon has changed the company’s new app logo after outraged users suggested it reminded them of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
Taking cancel culture to the next level, netizens accused Amazon of Nazi propaganda as they claimed the company’s smartphone app logo looks like the lower part of Hitler’s smirking face.
The logo, which has since been changed by the company, featured a box with a mouth-shaped arrow in the center and a piece of blue tape at the top.
“Seriously, though, who approved Smiling Mouth And Hitler ‘Stache as a new logo for Amazon?” someone wrote as the e-commerce giant began facing a backlash.
“I’m not gonna lie, I’m uncomfortable with having the Amazon logo sport a Hitler ‘tache on my phone screen,” another one said.
“Well it happened, my Amazon app icon finally updated to the cardboard Hitler,” the third wrote.
One person suggested: “I had to go download the app on my phone, to see what you were talking about and now I can’t unsee it.”
Following the backlash, the company quickly tweaked the logo by folding the blue tape in the logo over one of its corners even though they didn’t comment on the previous version’s alleged resemblance to Hitler.
“Amazon is always exploring new ways to delight our customers. We designed the new icon to spark anticipation, excitement, and joy when customers start their shopping journey on their phone, just as they do when they see our boxes on their door step,” a spokesperson for Amazon said in a statement to The Verge.
