Amazon Fires Spotted on NASA Photos With the Release of Carbon Monoxide in the Atmosphere


If the latest report is anything to go by, then huge swathes of fires in the Amazon rainforest has been spotted in the NASA photos.

NASA has just launched some sobering photos which have been taken between the dates of August 15 to August 22.

By the pictures, one can see South America lit up with large blazes continuing to burn.

According to the recent report, hundreds of new fires are discovered as troops deploying to battle horrifying blazes. And some of them indicate that the fire is going to be there for more than a couple of weeks.

From the picture, one can get a glimpse of the infernos spotted in orange color overlaying on the nighttime imagery, including towns and cities shown in white and forest are shown in black. Additionally, for woodlands, the picture shows the color grey.

The orange patch in Brazil’s northeast side concentrates around Amazonas as well as Pará states that are heavily affected.

Wildfires in the populated locations such as Porto Velho are particularly hit very hard with the city getting engulfed with a large blanket of smoke.

NASA also launched a particular time series where it is shown that a huge plume of CO or carbon monoxide over Brazil.

The recent photos have been taken at the height of 18,000ft between August 8 and 22 using AIRS or Atmospheric Infrared Sounder instrument.

The images highlight carbon monoxide or CO in green color when it is 100 ppbv or parts per billion by volume.

The image shows the yellow or red gas around 120 ppbv and 160 ppbv respectively. The map indicates that with days passing by, the CO level will increase, especially in Brazil’s northwest part, right before drifting around to the rainforest’s south-east part.

According to what NASA said, CO happens to be a pollutant that can be transported in the atmosphere for one month. Jair Bolsonaro, Brazilian president, rallied criticism and anger from abroad in response to the ranging of Amazon rainforest’s fire.
