Imagine you could play a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game or MMORPG based on The Lord of the Rings.
Exciting, right? Well, Amazon has just announced that it is working on an MMORPG version of The Lord of the Rings.
And what’s more exciting is that it will be a free-to-play affair set in Middle-earth as per The Lord of The Rings literary series.
That means that the purist in you can celebrate as it will be based on the original series by the author J.R.R. Tolkien and not the movie version of it.
VP Christoph Hartmann, Amazon Game Studios’ VP, said that the book version’s Middle-earth is amongst the richest fictional worlds in history.
He added that it would give their highly experienced MMO developing team an enormous opportunity to create and play. The same group is also developing New World.
This new game will entirely be different from 2007’s The Lord of the Rings Online that is still running. The MMORPG will be set before the happening of The Hobbit and the LOTR, that means, in the Second Age.
The Second age expands more than 3,000 years, but the exact period hasn’t been confirmed yet.
And if this is not enough, Amazon is also in the process of producing a TV series portraying the LOTR which will be approximately a £1 billion deal. The studio chosen for the same is located in Scotland.
It is expected that the filming of the TV series at the new studio will begin from August to November and that the production will revisit Scotland for three months starting from March 2020. Both the studio and Scotland will gain a substantial boost.
For those of you who love goblins, elves and all the supernatural creatures, Amazon has become your fairy-god-mother.
