A British diplomat, who has gone running out for jog, have been missing from home for more than 5 days, as investigations continue to search for the former Ambassador to Nepal.
52-year-old Richard Morris, who have been a multi-role diplomat working at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), have been missing from his home in Bentley, Hampshire since 10:30am last Wednesday. The spokesperson for the FCO expressed deep concerns about his disappearance, and wished for him a safe return. He was set to take on a new post as the British High Commissioner to the Republic of Fiji in July 2020. Before this appointment, he had been the Nepalese ambassador from 2015-2019, successfully hosting Prince Harry in March 2016 along the way. As a person who have served the FCO for 30-year long career, this disappearance is highly unsettling for both the Office and his family. Morris entered the Foreign and Commonwealth Office via an open competition in 1990.
Morris had been considered a ‘high risk’ personnel by the police and was taken into deep care before the disappearance, and accordingly the search for his trails have now hosted several institutions including the Hampshire Search and Rescue along with canine and aerial support teams.
The Hampshire police have claimed: ‘We are now asking residents in the surrounding areas if they could assist by checking sheds, outbuildings and gardens.
We would also love to hear from any residents or businesses with CCTV that could help our enquiries.’
He had left this tweet prior to his disappearance:’My successor will be Nicola Pollitt. I look forward to taking up my next role as British High Commissioner to Fiji and Head of the Pacific Network in July 2020.’
A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘We’ve been making enquiries but are now turning to you for your help.
His family are understandably concerned for his welfare.
