The Cleveland Division of Police issued an amber alert for a 12-year-old boy who had been kidnapped.
Officers started searching for the child and the suspects, according to 19 News.
Police found the suspects driving the mother’s vehicle 2008 Saturn Vue, crashed the car and attempted to flee from the scene but were arrested.
They spent hours searching for the child, who officers believed was kidnapped. However, it was discovered that the mother just lied.
The 12-year-old boy was found safe and sound at home.
According to the police, when the mother’s vehicle was stolen, she informed them that her child was also in the car so she could get it back faster. Ohio was rocked by an Amber Alert for the boy but it turned out that was a hoax.
The Amber Alert was cancelled along with a notice that the woman had lied.
Cleveland Police Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said in a statement: “Preliminary information indicates that this child was never in the car and was possibly at home the whole time.
“The officers on scene are going to be making reports due to the mother making false police reports. The case will be referred to the detective bureau for follow up …”
Kelly Kennedy was sent by 19 News to the mother’s home but the mother wasn’t keen to tell her anything.
“’Why are you here? And then you’re all talking about a hoax and all of that s**t! Can you get the f*** off my porch? I don’t even know how y’all know where I live at or none of that,’ the mother said,” 19 News reported.
When Kennedy asked: “Well, was your son in the car when it was stolen?” The mother shut her front door.
People who lived in the area were horrified to hear it was a lie. Neighbor Andrew Roberts told 19 News: “That’s sickening. That’s even more crazier than what they did by stealing it. Two wrongs don’t make it right.”
