The United States was the first country in the world to report 1,000 coronavirus deaths in only 24 hours as the death toll hit over 5,000.
As of this writing, America has more than 276,965 cases and the virus shows no signs of slowing down even though the whole nation is on lockdown. Experts even estimated that as many as 200,000 will die from coronavirus.
After the death toll in Michigan doubled in 3 days, there are fears that the city of Detroit will become the next epicenter of coronavirus. The state is now the third-highest death toll (479 as of this writing) after an alarming spike in its figures.
With 103, 476 confirmed cases and 3,218 deaths, New York continues to bear the brunt, while New Jersey follows with 29, 895 cases and 646 reported deaths.
The number of deaths in the US (7,391) is dwarfing the reported death toll in China (3,322).
While the death toll in Spain (11,198) and Italy (14,681) is higher, the US already surpassed the number of confirmed cases in the hard-hit countries in Europe.
The deadliest day in Italy was on the 26th of March when 969 deaths were confirmed. In China, their reports show that the deadliest day was in February when 242 people in Hubei province passed away.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio appointed former NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill as the COVID-19 Senior Advisor and said the former cop would be responsible for making sure the city’s medical professionals and hospitals have enough supplies to tackle the crisis.
