More than 200 Americans have been evacuated from Wuhan, China, and will be screened for coronavirus.
More than 200 Americans have been taken to a military base in Southern California to be kept for three days for monitoring their health as the coronavirus continues to spread.
Dr. Chris Braden from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told that more than 200 Americans have been evacuated from Wuhan, China and will be kept on a 72-hour ‘hold’.
They will stay at a military base in Southern California and will undergo blood tests that will later be sent to the CDC’s Atlanta facilities.
Rear Admiral Dr. Nancy Night of the CDC said: “The CDC Atlanta lab is the only laboratory in the country that is able to do this testing for the novel coronavirus.”
One of the evacuees was stopped from entering the plane after they showed the signs of illness. Before arriving in California, the passengers in Wuhan underwent two health screenings.
After arriving in Alaska, the evacuees underwent two more screenings.
Department of Defense press secretary Alyssa Farah said: “Evacuees will not have access to any base location other than their assigned housing.”
131 deaths have been reported due to the deadly coronavirus while 5,568 have been infected across the world.
The virus, which is believed to have originated in the central city of Wuhan, forced several cities to be placed under lockdown in order to prevent the spread of the virus.
The virus has spread across the country as Thailand, Hong Kong, the United States, Taiwan, Australia, Macau, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, France, Canada, Vietnam, Nepal, Cambodia, and Germany have reported the cases of the virus.
After France, Canada, New Zealand, and Britain announced evacuations, Americans also have been evacuated from Wuhan, China.
