Amy Schumer has opened up about her painful condition and revealed that she had to have her uterus and appendix removed.
Sharing the news with her followers, the 40-year-old American comedian and writer took to social media to reveal that doctors had to remove her appendix and uterus because she was suffering from endometriosis.
Endometriosis is a painful disorder that causes the lining of the womb to grow outside of the uterus. This may affect the sufferer’s fertility and can cause a tremendous amount of pain.
As Schumer explained in her Sunday video, she had 30 unwanted growths inside of her, and hysterectomy was the only way to counter the condition.
“The doctor found 30 spots of endometriosis that he removed. He removed my appendix because the endometriosis had attacked it,” she said.
“There was a lot, a lot of blood in my uterus and I’m, you know, sore and I have some, like, gas pains.”
Following the procedure, Amy is in for a long recovery, whereas she may need anywhere from a few weeks to several months to fully recover.
The comedian previously spoke out about her condition years ago after endometriosis caused complications as she gave birth to her baby boy, Gene.
“Even through the birthing center has an operating room and doctors at the ready… my instincts were just like, no,” Schumer said as she recalled her C-section.
“I was throwing up through the whole first hour of my C-section. It’s supposed to take about an hour and a half or something but mine took over three hours because of my endometriosis.”
Though the procedure was challenging, Schumer noted how it was all worth it after she saw her son for the first time.
Wishing you a speedy recovery, Amy!
