Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has celebrated Salma Hayek’s birthday through a Mexican tradition that involves shoving Salma’s face into a cake.
Salma Hayek who turned 55 on Thursday, shared a video of herself sitting in front of a cake as Angelina, 46, sat next to her. Sami Hayek, Salma’s brother, sat on her other side.
The Eternals co-stars indulged in a fun celebration, during which Salma released the candid cake footage on Instagram. Angelina wears a black suit with a lace camisole in the clip, while Salma is dressed in a metallic jumpsuit and black ankle boots.
The post was captioned with: “My brother @hayekstudio and me trying to teach Angie how to do the mexican mordida @angelinajolie Mi hermano sami y yo enseñandole a #anjelinajolie como se hace la mordida!”
Salma referred to the Mexican tradition of “La mordida” in which the birthday person has their face smashed into the cake as the way to take their first bite.
In the video, those around Salma and Angelina shouted “Mordida! Mordida!” Guests are meant to shout “mordida”, meaning “bite” during the ritual.
Angelina is hesitant as the birthday girl shows her how to perform the Mexican tradition. Salma encouraged Angelina to push her, telling her costar to “do it.”
Angelina appeared to be incapable of containing her laughter during the candid moment. Then Angelina screamed and covered her mouth after unwillingly pushing Salma’s face into the cake.
She just smiled, leaned back, and covered her face after she pushed the celebrant’s head down into the cream-covered dessert.
Salma arose from the cake with a mouthful, laughing as she swallowed her first bite.
The video has already amassed almost four million views and has more than 700,000 likes.
Prior to posting the video, the 55-year-old celebrated her birthday by posting a photo of herself wearing a blue one-piece bathing suit while at a beach.
She wrote a caption saying: “Happy 55th birthday to me looking forward to new adventures #grateful”.
Hayek celebrated Jolie’s 46th birthday in June with a sweet photo of the duo dressed glamorously while at a Comic-Con event posted on Instagram.
The actress wrote in the caption: “Happy birthday my Eternal sister… Angie you are the boss.”
Angelina and Salma’s friendship seemed to have bloomed during the shoots of MCU’s Eternals. Salma has previously shown her love for Jolie multiple times through her Instagram posts.
The Eternals comes out on November 5, 2021. Directed by Chloé Zhao, the film has an ensemble cast with Jolie and Hayek joined by Kit Harrington, Richard Madden, Brian Tyree Henry, and Gemma Chan.
The Eternals is an action movie about a race of immortal beings with superhuman powers who have secretly lived on Earth for thousands of years, reunite to battle the evil Deviants. Angelina plays immortal Thena and Salma is Ajak.
The pair’s friendship blossomed in December 2019, when the Mexican actress shared an image of the pair alongside their co-star Kumail Nanjiani taking a selfie.
