John Harvey is a 42 year old British belonging to Westleigh, near Bideford in Devon.
He has been living in Pattaya, Thailand for the last 14 years with his girlfriend, Jenny Jaikumkao.
He is a casual angler who has been fishing since when he was three years old.
John is in a carnival mood as he has managed to catch an enormous Siamese carp at a lake in Thailand.
He is the real-life Santiago from ‘The Old Man and the Sea.’ After an 80 minutes battle to reel it, he finally was able to catch a glimpse of how vast the creature was.
The weight of the fish was calculated to be 105 kg. This magnificent fish had to be weighed with the help of a robust stainless steel tripod.
In fact, John had to take the help of two more anglers, Nanwam, the Lagoon guide and Dan Hastings in order to lift the colossal creature for a picture.
He has beat the previous world record set for catching a 10lbs Siamese carp. He says that holding this record is the only way he could be famous. He also has been showing around the picture of his catch to everyone ever since.
He was so overwhelmed with his catch that he bought everyone at the lake a beer to celebrate.
The Briton said that the only tricky part was the heavy weight of the carp. Otherwise, it wasn’t putting up any fight.
John says that he felt awful for the other anglers at the lake who put in a lot of money for fishing but still don’t manage to catch such heavy ones. He calls himself a casual fisherman.
Siamese carp also called giant carp, is the largest species of cyprinid in the world.
