A 27-year-old man was left with huge bite marks on his face after he jumped into a lake to save a drowning dog.
Reece Tayler was riding his bicycle alongside Norwich Yacht Station in River Wensumh when he suddenly heard a man shouting for help.
It turned out that an Italian Cane Corso named Bentley had fallen off the side of a boat before the kindhearted animal lover arrived on the scene.
Reece didn’t think twice when he jumped into the waters and rescue the dog.
However, the distressed pooch ended up biting his face!
“I was cycling along the road and saw a woman’s partner in the middle of the road amidst cars and early morning runners,” Reece recalled. I could hear the man saying, ‘Please help, my dog is going to drown’.
“When I was growing up my mom was like the local animal shelter – we had dogs, cats, rabbits, a pet pigeon called Swark, turkeys: any animal we had it.”
Reece said that he knew he couldn’t pass by without trying to help.
“So I just stopped my bike, stripped down into my undies on the side of the road – didn’t even hesitate and jumped straight in,” he added.
The Good Samaritan managed to take the 60kg canine to safety but he was bitten above his left eye during the process.
Bentley’s owner, Jacob Williams, had tried to rescue the pooch but failed to do so because of his weight.
Despite the minor injuries, Reece said he has no regrets about jumping into the lake to rescue Bentley.
“I didn’t even notice the injury whilst I was in the water – it must have been the adrenaline – but he was so scared,” Reece expressed.
“I’m so happy to have helped the family and their beautiful dog.”
