Anne Hathaway ditched meat almost a decade ago to lose weight for her Academy Award-winning role in Les Miserables.
She followed a strict vegan diet and kept it up to fit into her graceful Catwoman attire for Dark Knight Rises. But a taste of fish only two years ago helped her go back to eating meat.
The 36-year-old revealed that Matt Damon, her Interstellar co-star, helped her change her mind.
Damon, Hathaway, and Shulman went out to dinner at a Michelin restaurant while shooting the film in Iceland. Damon told the waiter he would eat whatever their chef wanted to serve while the actress wondered how she could keep her veganism without causing any problems.
She told Tatler for their June cover: “So then I was the only chick and I’m the vegan and everyone’s just going with the flow. So I asked [she puts on a small embarrassed voice]: ‘Is your fish local?’ And they said: ‘Do you see that fjord [out the window]?’”
Hathaway then decided to take it and immediately felt an amazing effect.
“So I had a piece of salmon and my brain felt like a computer rebooting,” she expressed.
The mother to 3-year-old Jonathan previously told Harper’s Bazaar that she realized her strict vegan diet held her back, especially while filming Interstellar which required her to wear an 18-kilogram space suit.
“I just didn’t feel good or healthy,” she said, adding that she wasn’t “strong.” After eating the fish in Iceland, Hathaway said she “just felt better.”
Hathaway also indulged in heavier foods as she gained some weight for a new movie role. “I am gaining weight for a movie role and it is going well,” she shared on Instagram. “To all the people who are going to fat shame me in the upcoming months, it’s not me, it’s you. Peace xx.”
