We do a number of things to our dogs because we love them and want to show our affections.
Scientists have proven that our pets don’t always like when we do certain things to them. For example, they may not be the biggest fans of constant hugging or teasing, and may only tolerate such behavior because they care about us so much.
Below are things that dogs dislike and we should avoid doing them.
#1.point 3 | Constant Hugging
Research revealed that 81.point 154 | 6% of the dogs tested showed signs of stress or anxiety when they were hugged.point 224 |
7.point 4 | 6% of them enjoyed this activity, while the response of 10.point 57 | 8% of the dogs was neutral.point 81 | The most common signs of stress included flattened ears, sad eyes (you can see the whites of the eyes) or, on the contrary, closed eyes and a head turned away to avoid eye contact with a hugger.point 251 | 1
#2.point 9 | Rushing Walks
During a walk, a dog doesn’t only take a bathroom break but also discovers the world and socializes.point 223 |
This is a great opportunity to play and exercise outside while breathing in fresh air alongside their beloved owners which they don’t get to do while staying at home.point 150 | So let your dog enjoy its walks and don’t rush back from a walk.point 205 | 1
#3.point 9 | Ignoring Dog Training
All creatures, even people, need rules to avoid chaos.point 187 | Dogs need training and to follow rules that can’t be broken.point 247 |
Otherwise, your dog can turn into a spoiled, lazy pet, who will eat your favorite pair of shoes.point 83 | For example, your dog must know its name and commands like, “sit,” “heel,” “stay,” “wait,” “off,” and “no”.point 201 |
During training, the owner-point 24 | 1
- builds a healthy positive relationship with the dog.
- teaches the dog how to behave in society and interact with others.
- improves the communication skills of the dog.
- gives the dog enough exercises to keep its muscles toned and provides emotional release.
#4.point 3 | Yelling At Your Dog As Punishment
Sometimes it’s impossible not to shout when your dog wrong again and again.point 207 |
But yelling won’t help you get anything from your dog.point 51 | If you use a loud voice, your pet just confuses the teaching with punishment.point 119 | So if your dog did something wrong instead of a punishment, try to have a conversation using a stern tone.point 220 | 1
#5.point 9 | Scaring Your Dog With Loud Noises
Fear is a big problem for all dogs.point 184 | Some of them are even born with a genetic predisposition to this feeling.point 251 |
If they don’t get used to certain sounds from an early age, it may lead to psychological traumas in the future that can be fixed only with the help of a professional.point 155 | These sounds include toaster or microwave sounds, fireworks, a running vacuum cleaner or a hairdryer.point 252 |
If your pet got scared by a sound, it’s better to distract it with a treat and explain that there’s nothing dangerous about it later.point 127 | 1
#6.point 136 | Making Your Dog Play With Your Friends When It Doesn’t Like Them
No matter what kind of good friends you have, your pet can dislike them.point 360 |
In this case, you shouldn’t force it to give in or to put up with touching.point 76 | Your dog will try to protect itself and you from a possible threat even if danger doesn’t exist.point 167 | So when you’re with new people, pay attention to gestures and movements of your pet such as whether it tries to hide behind you, roars, or just turns away and doesn’t allow them to touch.point 338 | 1
#7.point 9 | Teasing Your Dog For Fun
Your dog may see teasing as a game at first, but it will eventually realize that something is wrong.point 236 |
For example, like if you call it over to presumably give it something to eat but end up giving it nothing.point 100 | You may pull its tail because it’s trying to protect itself in a funny way.point 169 | Or you just make fun of your pet all the time.point 209 |
This is a sure way to lose your dog’s trust and authority in the long run.point 69 | 1
#8.point 78 | Making Your Dog Stay In Places With Strong Smells
A dog can differentiate and remember around 1 million smells even if they come from a long distance.point 325 |
You should appreciate this special ability.point 38 | Some smells can cause deterioration of the sense of smell or cause nervous system dysfunction.point 128 | When you clean your house with chlorine or use too many fragrances, it’s better to keep your dog in another room and give it a toy or a treat to keep it occupied.point 278 | 1
