Dr Anthony Fauci has accepted Joe Biden’s proposal to become his chief medical advisor as he shared a grave warning with fellow Americans.
As the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases confirmed on Friday morning, he “said yes right on the spot” after the president-elect asked him to serve as his chief medical advisor once he is sworn in.
Besides his position as the nation’s top medical advisor, Dr. Fauci will also retain his position as the director of the NIAID.
Appearing on NBC’s ‘Today Show’, the doctor went on to praise Biden’s plan to ask all Americans to wear face masks for one hundred days to combat the spread of coronavirus in the country.
“On the first day I’m inaugurated I’m going to ask the public for 100 days to mask – just 100 days to mask. Not forever,” Biden told CNN’s Jake Tapper. “And I think we’ll see a significant reduction [in Covid-19 cases].”
Speaking of the president-elect’s plan, Dr. Fauci said: “It’s a good idea. He’s saying hey, folks, trust me, everybody for 100 days. Now it might be that after that we’re still going to need it but he just wants everybody for a commitment for 100 days. I told him I thought that was a good idea.”
In another interview, Dr. Fauci also opened up about the upcoming festivities as he warned Americans of a “terrible” January due to a suspected surge of coronavirus cases following the holidays.
“I think January is going to be terrible because you’re going to have the Thanksgiving surge super-imposed upon the Christmas surge. So it’s entirely conceivable that January could be the worst,” he told Newsweek.
“I hate to say that but it’s the truth and the reality. I do see that happening.”
