An outstanding AI app allows amateurs to convert their ideas into realistic photos using nothing but simple doodles and basic colors.

As seen in the video released by NVIDIA researchers overseeing the project, the AI technology transforms basic lines and blobs into landscape elements such as mountains, lakes, and oceans.
The app called GauGAN came to life thanks to the collaboration of generative adversarial networks (GANs) and renowned painter Paul Gauguin.
To give you a quick insight into the use of the app, each of the colors used represents a different element – for example, light blue represents the sky. By drawing lines of different colors and connecting blobs, one can come up with an unlimited amount of sceneries which, with a bit of skill and practice, look quite realistic.
“Wouldn’t it be great if everybody could be an artist? If we could take our ideas and turn them into compelling images?” Vice President of ADLR NVIDIA, Bryan Catanzaro, said.
“This technology allows us to create a smart paintbrush, so that if you wanted to create a new picture, you can just draw the shapes of the objects that you want and the neural network can then fill in all the details.”
While the research paper on the creative invention is yet to be presented at the Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, the beta version of the program is already available online.
“I really think this technology is going to be great for architects, designers – people making virtual worlds to train robots and self-driving cars,” Bryan added.
“It’s like a coloring book picture that describes ‘here’s where a tree is, where the sun is, where the sky is’ – and then the neural network is able to fill in all of the detail and texture, the reflections, shadows, and colors, based on things that its learned form a large database of real-world images.”
