More and more people have started realizing the benefits of escaping the convenience of cities and spend time with nature in forests, deserts, and mountains.
But Thomas Dambo has taken things way too far.
Thomas, a sculpture artist, wanted to make the time people spend in the woods interesting. He wanted people to realize what nature does for them and that nature ought to be preserved.
So, Thomas and his team constructed hefty “giants” and “trolls” to motivate people to look behind mother nature.
In a social media post, Thomas talked about his love for fairy tales in childhood. He often imagined the presence of supernatural things like dragons and giants in the forest near his home.
As the artist grew up, he focused on his creative side and started working to bring the stories he has read to life. It was these fairy tales that inspired him to place giants in the woods.
His piece of art, named “The Seven Trolls and the Magical Tower,” is a story where seven trolls unite to make people see the beauty of nature as well as the importance of preserving it.
The story of the seven trolls was explained to the public by Thomas, who named them Una, Mikil, Joures, Kamiel, Hannes, Arvid, and Little Nora.
There’s one line that somewhat sums up the entire story of the trolls. That is: “Let us build them a tower as tall as a troll, and show them all beings are one in the soul. It took them all winter; by summer it was done. They then invited all the little people to come.”
According to the story created by Thomas, the trolls have seen ups and downs of all civilizations to ever walk the face of the earth.
The story reflects Thomas’ fears that the current civilization is on a path leading to the destruction of nature, which would eventually result in their own end.
The trolls want people to slow down in the race of life and think a little about others and the environment.
Thomas is looking forward to the trolls as a source of attraction for tourists who’ll come and see nature’s beauty. The last line of the story says: “What they saw no one knows, but the eyes never lie.”
The artist believes that we all need to find meaning in our life and make it worthwhile.
The trolls are present in the forest adjacent to the town of Boom, Belgium. They are, however, not the only ones made by Thomas.
The motivated artist will keep on making artwork that’s not only interesting but creates awareness about environmental issues.
All the artwork he makes are made of recycled material.
His other notable works include “The Future Forest,” made entirely out of trash and plastic. This marvel of art is present in Chapultepec, Mexico City, and is dedicated to the trash collectors of the area.
Thomas’ most praised work are the gigantic structures he has made in areas all over the world.
The motto behind each and every one of them is the same – we need to preserve the only home we’ve got in the unlimited multiverse.
