Asda is giving away free vegetables in its branches around the UK to reduce wastage of the food.
Asda sold vegetables at a bargain price of 20p on 24 December. It then decided to give away the remaining items that were not sold before Christmas.
Facebook users shared the good news on Facebook group Extreme Couponing and UK Bargains Facebook.
One of the shoppers Leah Garcia told that the Queslett Road store in Birmingham is giving away free vegetables to reduce the wastage of the food.
Leah shared pictures from the store that had a sign that read: ‘We love food but hate waste – so please help yourself’.
Leah captioned the pictures: ‘I was so delighted when I saw it and am also gonna share some of it.’
An Asda spokesperson told the BBC: “We didn’t want to see the final bags of veg in our Barry store go to waste. So took the decision to give them away. We hope they were enjoyed.”
Internet users praised the store for their decision of not wasting the food and giving it for free.
Twitter user Aled Jones wrote: “Da iawn (very well) to Asda Barry for giving away free vegetables rather than throwing them away. Hope local horse / livestock owners get down to the store and help themselves.”
Another Twitter user, Monsur Zaman, said: “Great to see Asda doing the right thing and not adding good food to the scrap heap.”
Shoppers across the country found free bags of carrots, swedes, parsnips, and spring greens that were given away for free by Asda.
You can also get the free veggies at shops in Chelmsford, Sunderland, Aberdare in Wales and Norfolk. The stores are giving away 2 bags per person.
