The cop who shot Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt dead during the Capital riot that took place on January 6th of this year has now been exonerated.
Babbitt was renowned as an avid Trump supporter who reportedly led plenty of conservative-themed conspiracy stories through social media. Her high-profile case took center stage when she was fatally shot by a police officer present at the Capitol building. Despite news of a lawsuit on the rise, an internal investigation into the matter soon revealed how the cop would now be exonerated from the case.
The 35-year-old female Air Force veteran was the only person to be killed during the violent riot that brought the entire US nation at a standstill. The officer opened fire on a large mob comprising of Pro-Trump supporters who made attempts to storm the building via the Rotunda.
Now, the latest reports confirmed how the Commander belonging to the Capitol Police’s Office of the Personal Responsibility division claimed that there would certainly be no further action taken on the matter.
Meanwhile, in the month of April, the Department of Justice mentioned how it would not be filing charges against this officer. Hence, there was a conclusion reached regarding how the internal probe would now end the official investigation.
Earlier this past month, the slain veteran’s family mentioned to the Washington Examiner how they planned on filing a $10 million lawsuit in the name of wrongful death. And that’s where they also explained how the officer was dressed in plain clothes and did not even bother issuing any form of verbal command in the incident.
In addition, Babbitt’s family lawyer also spoke about how a video was made public showing the Air Force veteran receiving bullets while no one appeared to be ducking down around her before she was killed. They argued how that clearly hinted that no form of verbal command was given.
Despite all these statements, the lawyer for the cop involved in the incident has denied all of these claims, stating how his client had issued several verbal commands that weren’t audible in the video.
