Heavy rains have brought relief to Australia’s fire-stricken east coast, exhausted firefighters and farmers.
After the bushfires killed 29 people, millions of animals, destroyed more than 2,500 homes, heavy rains on Australia’s east coast brought relief after years of drought.
The most affected states by drought and bushfires are Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland. Fire services hope the heavy rains would continue to bring relief to the states affected by drought and bushfires.
The New South Wales fire services wrote on Twitter: “Our fingers are crossed that this continues over the coming days.”
Many regions of New South Wales and Queensland have not seen heavy rainfall for years and the heavy rains are a blessing after the bushfires and years of drought.
Millions of animals died due to the bushfires in Australia. Cattle farmers are more than happy and have welcomed the rains wholeheartedly.
One cattle farmer Sam White said: “The recent rain has just been absolutely fantastic. It’s producing significant amounts of runoff, which is what we need, and it’s getting into our dams.”
Australia has been fighting bushfires since September that killed 29 people and millions of animals and destroyed more than 2,500 homes.
A 28-year-old volunteer firefighter Samuel McPaul died while fighting a massive and fast-moving blaze.
Victoria’s northeast was evacuated after an out-of-control bushfire hit the Buffalo River Valley.
According to the top tourism body, the bushfire crisis has cost the Australian industry almost A$1 billion ($690 million).
Though heavy rains have brought relief to Australia’s fire-stricken east coast, exhausted firefighters and farmers and have cleaned smoky air in Australia, it may also prove to be dangerous as it may come with dangers like flash flooding and falling trees.
For rains heavy enough to bring permanent relief from dry weather, Australia will have to wait until March.
