For the longest time, the world has been extremely unfair to the LGBT community.
They have fought for something which is their natural right and still, there are a few parts in the world that have not given them the recognition they deserve as a human being.
No one has the power to choose their own gender at birth although there are medical facilities available now for the same. Lesbians, transgender, gays only recognize their sexuality when they turn adolescent.
Till then they do not know much about their sexuality. Thus it is unfair to be stated as female or a male on the birth certificate when you are not one.
Accepting the fact, Australia’s state Tasmania became the first state of the country to work on the same. The state has now changed the legal working and has made gender description on the birth certificate optional now. The same gives the right to a person to be able to change their gender on their birth certificate until they turn 16.
The reform was passed in the lower house of the state on Wednesday after voting. The final decision came into the act when Liberal Speaker Sue Hickey went against the decision of her party and voted in favor of the reform.
According to the reform, a person is allowed to alter their gender description on the birth certificate until the age of 16 without taking the permission of their parents. The law also states that a transgender person does not have to go under an operation to get recognition as a transgender.
Ms. Hickey said “No this law is not in favor or is a sign of victory of any political party. I favored the decision, not because of any personal motive but only to let the LGBT community enjoy the basic recognition every human being deserves.
Besides who is anyone else to chose our gender for us. This is something we are supposed to do for ourselves.”
