Giving birth is an amazing experience, and it’s also the very first time that a mother gets to finally meet her precious baby.
While this is the first time they see each other face to face, a mother and her baby has already spent every waking moment together for the previous 9 months. You might call it a motherly instinct, but a mother can pick out her own baby in a roomful of newborns who, frankly, look the same as every other baby to the outside observer.
This is a story about a mother who was given an infant to take home that wasn’t hers.

Mercy Casanalles from El Salvador and her husband Rich Cushworth met at Christ for the Nations missionary school in Dallas, Texas. They fell in love and got married.
Since Mercy had a temporary visa to stay in the United States, she went back home at El Salvador, when she got pregnant.
Rich stayed in the U.S. and waited for Mercy and their son Jacob.
However, Mercy knew something was wrong as soon as the nurse handed the newborn baby.
Mercy told WFAA, “When I got him, I said, ‘This is not my baby.’”

Maternal instinct knew that he is not her son. She came back home to Texas with a lot of doubt.
It was heartbreaking to live with the feeling that the baby she has is not actually her baby.
After three months, Mercy and Rich had a DNA test done. The boy she brought home was not actually their baby. Then, where is their real son?
They reached the lawyer and they could find their biological son, Moses. Jacob also went back to his biological family.
However, the El Salvadorian government was being irrational. They refused to give Moses birth certificate and passport for a year.
Mercy and Rich had to take a long fight to bring their son back home, but the case is still in process.
