If you have seen the classic Disney movie Bambi, perhaps you also couldn’t forget a particular scene that made millions of people cry.
In the 1942 film, Bambi’s mother is killed halfway through the story, leaving most viewers devastated. And recently, a similar scene played out in real life.
The heartbreaking moment occurred in Alachua County, Florida. Reports said that Kelly Dugger, an employee at Alachua County Fire Rescue, saw the animals while she was on the way to work.
Dugger was driving to the headquarters building when she saw the animals. She slowed down and realized a mother deer had been struck and killed. A tiny baby deer was next to the mother’s lifeless body.
“Beside the mother was this little guy, a 1-2 day old fawn sitting by her side grieving the loss of his mother,” ACFT posted on Facebook.
Dugger also realized that the fragile creature was probably at an utter loss. Without his mum, the little deer had nowhere else to go.
Fortunately, her Facebook page showed what happened next for the baby deer.
Dugger first swaddled the little animal in a soft green towel. She then lifted the scared baby into her vehicle.
She drove straight for the ACFR headquarters office where her co-workers welcomed the cute little one up and showered him with care and love.
After making sure that the fawn was content and safe, ACFR entrusted him to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Caring experts will make sure he grows up in a fostering environment with many other deer with him.
“Kelly’s actions this morning are a direct reflection of Alachua County’s mission to enhance and care for the lives of those in our community,” ACFR wrote in a statement.
