A baby elephant dubbed Dumbo has died after his legs snapped.
The three-year-old was forced to perform tricks for tourists at a Thai zoo three times a day.
Dumbo got his front legs stuck in the mud and broke both of his back legs while trying to free himself because they were weak.
When Dumbo collapsed, his keepers took him to a veterinary clinic and found out he had broken both of his back legs. He died three days later.
Campaigners had been demanding Dumbo, whose real name was Jumbo, to be released into care due to the cruel treatment he was getting since April.
A petition was filed by Moving Animals for Dumbo’s release.

“It now turns out that he had an infection in his digestive tract, and he became so weak that his back legs snapped beneath him. Despite this, the zoo did not realise his legs were broken for three days, until the baby elephant was finally taken to an elephant hospital.”

Pichai Sakunsorn, manager of Phuket Zoo where Dumbo was kept, denied that Dumbo was neglected before his death.
