As humans, we consider ourselves at the top of the pile when it comes to living creatures in this world.

Of course, this assertion is not without good reason. Thanks to our intellect and capacity to reason, we have managed to conquer our environment to a point.

This innovation allowed us to discover fire, the use of tools, and eventually agriculture in an ever upward flow of evolution that has seen us send astronauts to the Moon and communicate with each other instantly on almost any place on the planet. The wonders that science has brought us are awe-inspiring and will continue to astound us as long as humans walk this Earth.

But for that “progress,” we have also been the cause of our planet’s slow destruction with countless species going extinct or in danger of getting there thanks to human activity. It is a duality that is as heartbreaking as it is confounding. How can human ingenuity exist on the same level as human greed and avarice?

In any case, despite how evolved we think we are, there are some things that are the same across all species. After all, we haven’t quite transcended the body that Mother Nature has given us so we are still as prone to the same biological and genetic urges that our ancestors were. And this includes trying to scratch a particularly hard-to-reach itch.

We’ve all been there and we all know how maddening an itch that you just can’t scratch can be. You try to scratch on the part you feel the itch is but soon discover that the itch isn’t going away at all. Then you have to hop from one part of your body to the next, even using a door frame to scratch, if that’s what it takes until you achieve the bliss of hitting just the right spot.

As it turns out, even animals can experience and be just as determined as humans in trying to scratch that itch away, as this baby elephant adorably did in this video.

The scene was taken at the Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe when some tourists on a safari noticed the cute baby elephant struggling to scratch its body parts. Fortunately, there was a conveniently shaped rock nearby and it was clear that nothing would stop this little one from achieving its objective.

It first scratches its side on one edge but that’s not the end because it turns out that even its bum was itchy.

It’s one of the more adorable things you can watch probably because we can easily empathize with what the little one was going through!
