A young baby girl tragically died after her father fastened her to his body and jumped to his death in a grisly murder-suicide.
The heartbreaking case takes place in Barossa Valley, Australia, where a 9-month-old baby girl was found dead alongside her dad after he jumped to his death from the famous Whispering Wall dam.
On Wednesday, at around 4.30 pm, emergency responders arrived at the grisly scene only to find 38-year-old Henry Shepherdson and his 9-month-old daughter, Kobi, unresponsive at the dam’s base.
According to the witnesses, the father, whose daughter was fastened to his body using a baby carrier, crossed the safety barrier despite their attempts to stop him from taking his life and the life of his young child.
Despite their best efforts, passersby didn’t manage to stop the dad from jumping off the dam.
After emergency services arrived at the scene, the 38-year-old was already dead. Meanwhile, the paramedics attempted to save the baby’s life by performing CPR for 15 minutes before she was pronounced dead as well.
According to Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott, the case is being treated solely as a murder-suicide, whereas the father of the baby girl reportedly had visiting rights which allowed him to see his daughter even though earlier reports suggested she had been kidnapped.
Furthermore, it has come to light that Shepherdson had a history of domestic violence and encounters with the police. As Daily Mail Australia reported, the father is believed to have previously threatened to kill his daughter and Kobi’s mother.
“We have been involved on some domestic violence incidents in the past and there are court orders in place in relation to the family. It’s resulted in this absolutely tragic outcome,” Parrott added.
Meanwhile, Kobi’s heartbroken mom shared a series of pictures of her beloved daughter to honor her memory and the joy she brought to her family.
Our thoughts are with Kobi’s mother and the rest of the family during these hard times. Kobi, rest in peace and fly high with the angels.
