Holly Mark recently gave birth to a baby boy.
And when she first held the baby, he was swaddled.
Three hours later, the nurse came to change the diaper when Holly and Mark, her partner, got the news that shocked them to their core.
The child was born without an anal opening. He has a pale and smooth rear without any hole or cheeks.
The doctor on the call quickly arranged an emergency ambulance transfer with neonatal intensive care at 3:00 am. He said they needed to have immediate surgery to create a temporary hole close to his belly button.
The doctor said this and left the room in a hurry with no further information about this condition. The couple was left to figure out things on their own.
In a frantic state, Holly and Mark, Googled “no butt hole” and learned everything that they could about this condition, which is known as imperforate anus.
It is one in a 7,000 condition and classified as rare diseases. Presently, it has only affected less than 2 00,000 people.
In the morning, the couple released that their child is suffering from VACTERL along with IA as he only has one kidney along with an unidentified abnormality of spine.
It was after the eleventh month that MRI showed that the boy had a tethered spinal cord, and after five-month, he underwent surgery to rectify this issue.
Over the course of three months of life, this baby boy had three surgeries to create an anal opening to facilitate bowel movement.
Considering that he had a severe case of IA, the boy will not be able to control his bowel and will be on enemas and laxatives throughout his life.
After the first surgery, the couple decided to go to the colorectal specialty center in Ohio for the other two surgeries.
