A newborn baby whose mum tragically died from COVID-19 just days after giving birth has finally been allowed to go home to his family.
Little Ayaan Hanif Ali, who was born via C-section at the beginning of April, was left without his mother, Fozia Hanif, just six days after he was born.
Never able to hold her boy in her arms, the 29-year-old mother passed away at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital on April 8.
After baby Ayaan had been in the hospital for more than a month, the family finally received some good news as doctors informed them the boy was ready to go home.
“Just wanted to share our great news with you all,” Zilley Khan, the deceased mother’s cousin, shared on Twitter.
“My cousin who died a month ago aged 29 with covid, who delivered her baby at 31 weeks. Well baby Ayaan is home today covid free…”
She added: “Indeed this news has made us forget our sadness and through baby Ayaan we will remember our beautiful cousin Fozia xx.”
As the woman’s husband, Wajid Ali, said according to ITV News, his wife tested positive for coronavirus two days after birth but was allowed to go home and self-isolate.
Four days later, however, she developed breathing problems and later died at the hospital before being able to hold or see her son in person.
“She was really happy, she got the baby photo they printed out for her. She was holding the picture and saying ‘look it’s our baby’ and ‘we’re going to come home soon’ … that’s the last time I spoke to her,” Ali said.
