A miracle baby boy was caught on camera smiling after defying the doctors by waking up from a five-day coma.
10-month-old Michael shared a cheerful grin as he surprised his parents Emma and Stuart Labuschagne who were patiently waiting for their baby to wake up.
As the family revealed, the doctors didn’t believe that the boy could make it after he suffered a severe cardiac arrest and ended up in a coma.
Fortunately, the little fighter, who suffers from a tumor on the heart, pulled through and gob-smacked the doctors.
His fight for life, however, is far from over. As England-based parents revealed, they have to raise $150,000 for life-saving heart surgery in the United States to give the boy a chance at future.
“At 14 weeks and three days old he went to bed like any other baby. But at 5am he had suffered heart failure. Words cannot begin to describe the pain we felt in that moment,” Michael’s 27-year-old mum said.
“We watched our baby breathless, gasping for air while his heart stopped and paramedics worked to save his life.
“In that moment I did not think Michael would make it through. Yet I am so so blessed to be here telling you that he survived. He survived an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest which only seven per cent patients do.”
While the surgeons installed a pacemaker to save the boy’s life, the device restricts his movement because of the boy’s small size.
“It does hold him back. It’s as big as the size of the palm of my hand and it has sharp edges,” Emma, a shop worker, added.
“Putting that inside a baby is quite uncomfortable for them. But he is amazing, you wouldn’t know looking at him that he is fighting this. He’s a lovely little baby – it’s hard to believe he’s going through what he is. He’s a miracle.”
The desperate parents are now pleading with Good Samaritans for help in order to raise sufficient funds to treat the young boy.
“Boston Children’s Hospital, ranked #1 paediatric hospital in the world, has quoted us $147,000 which converts to approximately £116,000 for the procedure.
The cardiac surgeons at Boston are *Fact* the best cardiac surgeons in the world and they have done this operation several times.
They are confident that they can drastically improve, or even cure, his condition by resecting the tumor,” they wrote on GoFundMe.“Please please help us by donating whatever you can to this cause. My baby needs this operation to have a chance at living a normal life. He currently has an internal pacemaker and defibrillator, but this has caused physical development delay and is currently at max threshold, which means it is not working as effectively as it should. The dream is to get him to Boston as soon as we can.”
