Viewers of Blue Planet Live were left horrified after a seagull snatched a baby turtle and ate it.
The baby turtle was released onto a beach and was heading towards the sea when a seagull snatched it.
Presenter Liz Bonnin was on Heron Island in Australia when the incident happened. She said before releasing the baby turtle:
“We’ve watched them come up to the sands of Heron to nest and we’ve also had the great privilege of watching precious new lives, little hatchlings emerging from nests and making it in the big blue.”
“These hatchlings are going to spend at least a hundred years in our oceans if all goes well. Surely it’s our responsibility to safeguard their futures.”
That’s when a seagull in the background snatched a baby turtle and ate it.
Horrified viewers took to social media. One wrote: “When Blue Planet Live is making a poignant message about saving the turtles and a baby turtle gets eaten in the background.”
Another wrote: “Oh my God did anyone see this seagull stealing one of the baby turtles they just realised onto the beach?!”
One user said: “Had to rewind it 3 times as I have seen and couldn’t believe it poor turtle”
Another said: “So was watching blue planet live and these women released six baby turtles onto the beach only for two of them to get pinched by seagulls and they do nothing to help… I am confused, to say the least.”
