A baby born with no eyes is searching for a loving family.
Baby Alexander K, who was abandoned by his mother as she couldn’t provide him with the best care, has an extremely rare condition that only two other children in the world have.
Despite his condition, Alexander, also known as Sasha, is perfectly healthy. He has two cysts on his head that will be removed soon.
Doctor Tatiana Rudnikovich says that the six-month-old is doing well. “Sasha is going through all regular check-ups and tests like any other baby of his age.”
A nurse who is currently caring for Sasha after taking the baby to St. Petersburg where medics implanted small eye orbs on his face said: “He is no different to other children, he plays and smiles just like any healthy baby. He loves playing and adores swimming, he is a very cheerful baby indeed.”
Most babies born with no eyes usually have numerous health conditions but Sasha is very healthy. His adoption page reads “Alexander K., Tomsk region, born in April 2019. Alexander is a peaceful, smiling baby, he smiles back as soon as he hears familiar voices.
“Mother signed his refusal papers in maternity hospital. There is no information about Alexander’s father and a ‘dash’ in his birth certificate where it should have been a name of the father. Alexander is up for adoption or foster care.”
Sasha is up for adoption to Russian family but he could also go to a foreign family. He will just need to have new prosthetic orbs implanted every 6 months as he grows older.
Doctors said that he has an extreme form of SOX2 anophthalmia syndrome which affects only one in a quarter of million people.
