The baby boy who was born with almost no skin covering his body continues to fight the odds and has just celebrated his first birthday in the presence of his loving family.
Ja’bari Gray was given little chance of survival after he was born with little to no skin covering his fragile body.
Despite the dire predictions, however, the baby boy’s parents, Priscilla Maldonado and Marvin Gray, never gave up and continued to provide him with the medical care he needed to thrive.
After countless skin grafts and visits to the hospital, baby Ja’bari reached an important milestone as he celebrated his first birthday.
“I’m overwhelmed with happiness. Everything is going fine. It’s working out a lot better than I expected,” 25-year-old Maldonado said in an interview with Today.
“It feels like having a baby all over again — actually being able to take the baby home. It’s like a dream come true, finally.”
As the proud mum added, she can finally do all the normal things such as giving her baby a bath and putting him in fresh clothes.
Recalling the moment she was finally able to pick up her son from the hospital in an interview with ABC13, Maldonado added:
“It was heartwarming because he was crying when he was laying down, but as soon as I picked him up and had the skin-to-skin contact and put him on my chest, he just stopped crying.”
As the young mother added, giving up on her baby was never an option she was willing to discuss even though it was brought forward by the doctors.
“If it wasn’t his purpose to be here, he would have been gone from birth or even before birth, so he does have a purpose in this world and we never know what it is until the future,” she previously told ABC13.
