Another BAME leader has spoken out to defend the Royal Family from Meghan And Harry’s bombshell racism allegations.
As 67-year-old Peaches Golding, the first Black woman to serve as Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the County and City of Bristol, insisted, she doesn’t believe that the royals are racist at all.
Confronting Meghan’s shocking claims, Lord-Lieutenant Golding suggested that the alleged racist comments could have been an honest mistake resulting from ‘clumsiness’ and genuine interest in how the couple’s baby would look like.
“[The comments] are not necessarily unacceptable. I know many people have an interest in new babies and what new babies are going to bring to us,” the BAME leader said during her appearance on BBC’s Today.
“I do not know what anyone’s intention may be. It is very easy in life to be slightly clumsy, sometimes because you are in a different situation.”
Lord-Lieutenant Golding went on to defend the Royal Family from backlash by suggesting most families discuss future babies’ looks during pregnancy.
“You might be feeling very tender and have uncertainty yourself about things. You do not know what people’s intentions are, you do not know the context, you do not know anything about how discussions came about,” she added.
“I bet in your family you have had that question about ‘what is little girl baby or little boy baby going to do – are his eyes going to be blue?’”
Speaking directly of the Royal Family, the former High Sheriff of Bristol said she doesn’t believe they are racist because “they are a very respectful group of people and I have never encountered racism at all.”
Golding’s comments follow shortly after the Black choir that performed at Meghan and Harry’s wedding defended Prince Charles against the allegations.
As Karen Gibson MBE, the founder of Kingdom Choir, insisted, Prince Charles invited them to Meghan and Harry’s wedding before going “out of his way” to thank them for their successful performance.
According to Gibson, she finds it hard to believe that Prince Charles could be behind the alleged comments about Archie’s skin tone.
During their bombshell interview with Oprah, Meghan and Harry insisted a senior royal expressed their worries that Archie’s skin would be too dark. While the couple refused to name the royal, they confirmed that the person behind the comments was not the Queen nor Prince Philip.
