A couple from Atlanta, Georgia was banned from visiting their premature baby due to coronavirus outbreak.
Juan and Kim Flores welcomed their baby Nico on March 10 at the Northside Hospital.
Nico weighed just four pounds and was in the Intensive Care Unit.
The doctors then told the couple they would not be allowing visitors in their Intensive Care Unit anymore due to coronavirus.
The parents are only allowed to FaceTime their newborn Nico twice a day and are banned from meeting him.
The parents appeared on Good Morning America and told they know it’s for their child’s good only and the doctors have made the right choice.
However, Kim becomes emotional sometimes when she thinks about feeding her newborn and staying by his side.
Kim said: “But as a mom, when you can’t be there to help feed bottles and get to know your new baby, it’s very emotional. There’s been a lot of tears.”
When the parents were asked about their FaceTime sessions, Juan said they feel it’s better than not seeing him at all.
Juan said: “It’s making the best of the situation. We understand where they’re coming from.”
The parents praised the hospital staff for their constant support and believe they are doing it for the betterment of their baby and other babies at the hospital.
Kim said: “I trust that the hospital has the best interest of my baby and all the babies at heart.”
While Juan said by banning visitors they are protecting their patients and the medical staff and it’s for everyone’s good.
Juan said: “What if someone who hasn’t been practicing proper social distancing comes in and gets the doctors and nurses sick? Then who will take care of my baby?”
The new parents hope to meet their baby soon who is recovering at the hospital and has already gained weight.
