Barack Obama was filmed enjoying a vacation in his home state of Hawaii around noon on January 2.
He was photographed paddle boarding in the Pacific Ocean and appeared to be having fun in the water.
The former president was standing on a light-colored paddleboard while wearing a ‘shark deterrent’ band around his ankle.
He was also photographed falling off the board many times but the 58-year-old had an amazing time, according to the photographer.
The ‘shark deterrent band’ claims to ‘deter predatory shark species’ by using ‘technology developed by marine biologists,’ according to Sharkbanz.
The website claims: “Sharkbanz’s patented magnetic technology is the result of long term, ongoing scientific studies and testing.
“Sharkbanz utilize powerful permanent magnets to create an effective shark deterrent that’s always on and requires no batteries or charging.
“When sharks approach Sharkbanz, they detect the device’s strong electromagnetic field, which provides a sudden sensation that is thousands of times stronger than the signal produced by anything in a shark’s normal food chain. Consequently, sharks are deterred away from Sharkbanz.
“This cause and effect is analogous to having a bright light suddenly shined in your eyes in a dark room. You would not be hurt, but you would want to turn away.”
Obama wore a black swimsuit with a ying-yang on his leg. Photos show a secret service agent in a bulletproof vest following the former president in a kayak.
The camera also caught him trying to wobble on the paddleboard before he fell backwards into the water. He quickly got back up and started paddling again in a kneeling position.
One internet user commented: “President Obama is always so wonderful with children and babies. It’s a pleasure to see him, as always, and it’s good to see that he’s put on a couple of pounds and he’s out enjoying himself. He got so skinny in the White House.”
Another wrote: “If a shark bites off your leg(s) do you get a product refund?”
A third asked: “What exactly is the secret service supposed to do in the case of a shark?”
