For many years, Michelle and Barack Obama, along with their children, have volunteered at food banks for Thanksgiving.
This Thanksgiving, Obama shared a photo of himself, his wife, and their two children, Sasha and Malia, giving out canned foods to people. He also reminded everyone of the importance of helping those who are in need.
It is not clear where and when the photo was taken but it shows a small child smiling at the former President.
In a heartwarming post on Instagram, Obama wrote: “Today, we give thanks for our blessings, give back to those around us, and enjoy some time — and turkey, and maybe a little football — with the ones we love. From the Obama family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving.”
Michelle Obama also posted a photo of their family. She wrote on Twitter: “From our family to yours, #HappyThanksgiving!”
Barack Obama also shared a piece of advice to others: “Before arguing with friends or family around the Thanksgiving table, take a look at the science behind arguing better. And it’ll never hurt to try this: ‘Listen to people, get them to think about their own experience, and highlight your common humanity.”
He also shared a link of a Vox article ‘Most people are bad at arguing. These 2 techniques will make you better,” adding, “Be kind to one another.”
The photos shared by the couple also brought back memories of Barack Obama’s time at the office, with one internet user commenting, “OMG We Miss You So Much! What a gorgeous family. You Are Loved! Happy Thanksgiving Obama Family!”
President Donald Trump also shared a thanksgiving message, thanking US troops he visited in Afghanistan.
“We are thankful to all who wear our Nation’s uniform, allowing us to celebrate in safety and peace,” he wrote.
First lady Melania Trump also wished Americans “a blessed Thanksgiving! Enjoy time with your family and friends.”
