A black bear was caught on camera charging at a woman who was enjoying the sunny weather at a popular running trail.
Sherry Moore from Colorado spoke out about her ordeal to Denver 7 News and admitted she thought she wouldn’t make it out of the confrontation in one piece.
The incident occurred when the woman was running at a popular trail in Whistler. As she stopped to take a photo with some rocks, she noticed a black bear that started approaching her.
“I literally took this dumb selfie of myself because I saw these boulders and thought of being at home … and then right as I take the picture, this bear jumps down onto the trail,” Moore recalled.
After surveying the ‘prey’ for a few seconds, the bear charged at the scared runner and sent shivers down her spine.
“And all of a sudden it turned and charged me and I literally thought for that moment I was going to be mauled. I thought, ‘This is it, it’s done,’” Sherry added.
“I just stopped and it got up on its two feet and right in front of me and I just stared at and started screaming at it like a dog.”
While that part of the incident wasn’t caught on camera, Sherry explained she kept on screaming loudly until the bear gave up and walked away.
As it happens, the woman nailed the protection method against the bear.
According to the Government of British Columbia, one should stay calm and slowly walk away when encountering a black bear.
However, if the bear decides to charge, one should wave their hands, make sounds, and try to look as intimidating as possible to repel the attack.
