A black bear approached and sniffed a group of hikers who remained calm and even managed to take photos with the curious animal.
The unbelievable incident occurred at a hiking trail at Chipinque Ecological Park in San Pedro Garcia.
In the viral video, a female hiker can be seen trying her best to stay calm as the bear sniffs her head. Two other hikers also stayed very still as they watch the inquisitive bear trying to inspect their companion.
Other hikers tried to distract the animal but its curiosity prevailed. The bear continued sniffing the woman’s head while her friends waited for the adorable creature to leave.
The woman then took the opportunity to pull her phone out for a selfie, and another shocking moment happened.
As soon as she grabbed her phone, the bear stood up long enough for the photos before descending back on all fours.
After taking some selfies, the bear started to move away and the group of hikers left the area.
The encounter was shared online where it gained over two million views.
Journalist Yashar Ali praised the hikers for handling the situation, writing: “We don’t see the lead up, but they handle themselves well. If a black bear is this close to you, it’s too late to scare them off unless they’re attacking you, then you should fight back. Otherwise, stay calm..don’t run.
“Don’t do that with a grizzly if they attack you…play dead.”
Another journalist, Clarence Hill Jr. also wrote: “It’s one thing to be brave, its another to be poised under pressure. My god.”
