A bride shared her smart idea that how she saved $10,000 on her wedding by using artificial flowers from Kmart and homemade cake.
Bianca and her husband Adam got married last month in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula region and decided to cut back on unnecessary costs.
After being asked by a florist to fork out $50 just to receive the quote for some flowers, Bianca turned to her favorite discount retailer – and her creative mother Debra – for some help.
Bianca and her husband combined $5 bunch of peonies with the $5 bunch of white roses available at Kmart and they added some olive leaves from their back garden to match.
The result was amazing, that none of her guests realized was fake.
They arranged everything smartly, spent a total of $70 on all of the floral arrangements, a good deal from the usual average for wedding flowers which Money Smart estimates is upwards of $2,800.
‘I did find lots of bargains so that I could spend more on other things,’ Bianca told FEMAIL.
‘My main goal was for my beautiful guests to have a great night dancing, eating and celebrating. In total, we saved about $10,000 by cutting some corners.’
Bianca’s sister-in-law, who was also her maid of honor, baked the decadent three-tier cake the couple enjoyed during the festivities.
‘My brother also helped with the cake. Being a concrete and carpenter he knows how to trowel so this came in handy icing a cake to perfection,’ she said.
‘We were lent a car too. No one saw us get out of the car so I felt that spending $2,000 on wedding cars that no one would see is ridiculous.
‘So we were lucky enough to be lent a Range Rover which was just beautiful.’
They made wooden centerpiece slabs from a tree that was cut down, Bianca’s brother chopping it up with a chainsaw. This saved the couple $30 per table.
And with 11 tables, every cent counts,’ Bianca said.
They spent more on their wedding coordinator, who helped piece together their special day, and a photographer.
‘It was just a magical day and everything I dreamed it would be,’ she said.
