Joe Biden has gone viral after calling Kamala Harris a president in a major presidential gaffe.
Addressing the nation from the White House, Biden referred to his second-in-command, Vice President Kamala Harris, as “President Harris.”
“Now, when President Harris and I took a virtual tour of a vaccination center in Arizona not long ago, one of the nurses on that, on that tour injecting people, giving vaccinations, said that each shot was like administering a dose of hope,” the 46th US President said in his broadcasted speech.
While VP Harris was reportedly present in the room at the time Biden was giving his speech, her reaction to the major gaffe was not captured in the official White House video.
Though it may sound like a big deal to some, this isn’t the first time Biden upgraded Harris’s title during a speech.
Back in December, after being declared the president-elect by major networks, Biden referred to Kamala Harris as a president-elect while sharing insights about the pandemic from Wilmington, Delaware.
“I hope the president will clearly and unambiguously urge all Americans to take the vaccine once it’s available,” Biden said in December.
“I took it to instill public confidence in the vaccine. President-elect Harris took hers today for the same reason.”
The recent presidential gaffe comes as President Biden is preparing to hold his first press conference at the White House since taking office.
According to the reports, the pressure to conduct a briefing has been rising as it came to light that Biden became the first president in the last one hundred years not to hold a press conference for as long as eight weeks.
