President Joe Biden has done it again and this time, Australians are not happy.
During a recent live press briefing with the Australian Prime Minister, the US President went blank when it came to remembering the name of Australia’s prime minister. Referring to him as ‘that fella down under,’ critics were quick to point out how the President was forgetting things again.
The meeting was reportedly based upon the subject of national security with Scott Morrison who is Australia’s Prime Minister.point 224 |
However, while making an attempt to announce the security partnership between the two nations on Wednesday, Biden suffered another episode of verbal malfunction, forgetting the name of the Prime Minister in public.point 183 | 1
The shocking gaffe took place during the press conference that also featured Boris Johnson, who is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, alongside Scott Morrison. While they attended virtually, it was Biden’s role as the host to make them feel welcomed and at home.
However, he failed miserably at doing just that, calling the Australian prime minister as ‘the fella down under!’
The three countries are excited to announce their strategic AUKUS partnership or strategic alliance and that is where the US and the UK will join hands at assisting Australia in creating their nuclear-powered fleet of submarines.
It was the Australian Prime Minister Mr. Morrison who spoke first at the meeting, followed closely by UK prime minister Mr. Johnson. After that, Biden decided to thank his counterparts for their words, as he took the center stage and opted to speak.
“Thank you, Boris,” the President said. But when it came to thanking the Australian prime minister, Biden turned at him and then had a very awkward pause. “I would like to thank… uh… that fella down under,” the US President mentioned.
Clearly, it was an awkward silence that not too many people saw coming. But now, it’s going viral, allowing plenty to debate on whether or not the President should be allowed to speak in public due to so many gaffes attached with his name.
