President Joe Biden has returned to power and reassured the people that he feels great after handing the presidential reins to VP Kamala Harris.
On Friday, Vice President Kamala Harris became the first woman in the country ever to hold presidential powers.
Though the transfer of power only lasted for 85 minutes, White House press secretary Jen Psaki suggested that the event represents “another chapter” in the history of the United States.
“I think that will be noted for many women, young girls across the country,” Psaki said during a press briefing.
Now, President Biden has returned to the office and appeared in high spirits as he flexed his muscles following the medical procedure.
“They’re going to release all the details. I feel great. Nothing’s changed,” the president, who turns 79 today, said.
“I’m looking forward to celebrating my 58th birthday,” he added in a joking fashion.
As it has since also been revealed, Biden handed the reins over to Harris ahead of his colonoscopy procedure “in accordance with the provisions of section 3 of the Twenty-Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution.”
“This letter shall constitute my written declaration that I am presently unable to discharge the powers and duties of the office of the President of the United States,” Biden’s letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President pro tempore Senator Patrick Leahy read.
“Pursuant to section 3, the Vice President shall discharge those powers and duties as Acting President until I transmit to you a written declaration that I am able to resume the discharge of those powers and duties.”
Following his colonoscopy, Biden resumed his duties and took back presidential powers by releasing another letter that read:
“In accordance with the provisions of section 3 of the Twenty-Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution, I hereby transmit to you my written declaration that I am able to discharge the powers and duties of the Office of the President of the United States and that I am resuming those powers and duties.”
