Joe Biden has urged President Trump to enforce mask-wearing as he warned that it could take years before Americans receive the potentially lifesaving COVID-19 jab.

As the President-Elect said on Tuesday, the vaccinations appear to be “falling behind” and reaching the desired outcome could take “years” rather than months.

“It would make a huge difference for President Trump to say ‘wear masks,’” Biden said in front of socially-distanced reporters who gathered at Wilmington’s historic Queen Theater.

“I hope the president will clearly and unambiguously urge all Americans to take the vaccine once it’s available.”

Biden’s speech follows after the President-Elect, as well as his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, received a COVID-19 jab. Earlier on Tuesday, Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris was also inoculated.

“And the reality is, it looks like we’ll hit that grim milestone,” Biden added as he presented statistical facts and suggested that the COVID-19 death toll will reach 400,000 before Trump leaves the White House.

“Turning this around will take time. And we might not see improvement until well into March, as it will take time for our COVID response plan to begin to produce visible progress.”

The President-Elect also took aim at the Trump administration for reportedly suggesting that 20 million Americans could receive the jab by the end of the year whereas only some 2 million people were vaccinated for the virus as of this writing according to CDC.

“We are grateful to the companies, doctors, scientists, researchers, and clinical trial participants, and Operation Warp Speed for developing the vaccines quickly. But as I long feared and warned, the effort to distribute and administer the vaccine is not progressing as it should,” Biden added.

“At the pace the vaccination program is moving now, it would take years, not months, to vaccinate the American people.”

The President-Elect also vowed to “spare no effort” in hastening the vaccinations whereas he revealed he aims to get “at least 100 million Covid vaccine shots into the arms of the American people” in his first 100 days as the president.

“My first 100 days won’t end the Covid-19 virus. I can’t promise that. But we did not get into this mess quickly. We’re not going to get out of it quickly,” Biden said.
